Support
Support is a key ingredient to a successful quit. We all desire support of
one kind or another. From our family. From our friends. Even from co-workers.
No matter the topic, we seek our support. The proverbial pat on the back.
Trying to kick an addiction is extremely difficult. Especially if you try to
do it alone. Finding support for your quit will solidify it. I wholely believe
you have to quit for yourself. Quitting for others will only weaken your
resolve. Once you do quit for yourself though, seek the support of others in
this endeavor. A friend who laughs or taunts you with a dip of their own may
not be the friend you thought. Explain to them the hardships you are facing.
Explain to them that you are an addict trying to kick a habit. Get them on your
side.
Having family that understands and is willing to help is unmeasurable.
Whether it be a spouse, your kids, your parents or even distant cousins. Let
them know what you are doing, why you may not be acting normally, and that you
really need their help.
If you are a student, try the school nurse or an understanding teacher.
Perhaps a coach who used to dip. Never rely on support though from someone who
still dips/chews.
Finally, try online support groups. Places like
QuitSmokelessExtreme provide support from men and women all
across North America. People from all walks of live that share a common bond.
The desire to be rid of the nicotine demon.
