| Many people have trouble having
just a verbal commitment. Even if it is just to themselves. For this reason I
made this simple pledge. If anyone feels the need to copy it, please do so.
Find someone be it family, friend, co-worker or even dental hygenist to be a
witness and a source of support during your quit. It is very important to have
reasons to quit. Print out this pledge and carry it around with you. You never
know, it just might help.
The Pledge
This is my pledge. My commitment to myself. On this day I am making a
concious decision to give up smokeless tobacco use. Ahead of me lies a very
tough battle. A battle for my life. A life no longer controlled by nicotine. I
now understand the harm I have been doing to myself. I have not been true to my
body, my mind or my soul.
I understand fully that this will be a difficult, though not impossible,
task. This path will not be easy. But I have decided I am now in control. I am
better than the nicotine. I will control the cravings for it. Nicotine will not
control me. I no longer want nor need the nicotine. This now becomes my life.
I will seek the support of family, friends, counselors, teachers, co-workers
or anyone I can to gain support in my quest to be free of nicotine. I will, if
possible, seek out fellow quitters and not only seek their support, but support
them. Though I may be able to attain my goal alone, I will welcome any support.
Today I quit smokeless tobacco. Today I improved the quality of my life.
Today I improved the quantity of my life. I will no longer cheat myself or
those that love and care for me.
